At LOHR, we work exclusively with lab-grown diamonds that meet an uncompromising standard. Beyond certification, we have developed our own internal specifications, assessing each stone for cut, balance and light performance. While all LOHR lab-grown diamonds over one carat are IGI certified, our process extends further. We apply proprietary cutting standards designed to maximise brilliance, fire and sparkle. Through long-standing relationships with trusted international suppliers, only stones that meet these criteria are selected. How Lab-Grown Diamonds are Made

Lab-grown diamonds are created using one of two advanced methods:

High Pressure High Temperature (HPHT)
Chemical Vapour Deposition (CVD)

At LOHR, we predominantly work with CVD lab-grown diamonds, chosen for their consistency, clarity and ability to be grown to precise specifications, allowing for exceptional cut, proportion and optical performance.

How we Select our Lab-Grown Diamonds

Every LOHR diamond is selected with intention. We work to our own strict internal specifications, partnering closely with trusted international diamond suppliers and selecting only IGI-certified stones for diamonds over 1 carat.

Once a diamond arrives with us, it undergoes a careful assessment by our team, with particular focus on the quality of the cut. Cut is what determines how a diamond handles light, how it sparkles and scintillates.

Two stones with the same certification can appear completely different. For this reason, we go beyond the certificate. Each diamond is individually hand-selected and inspected by our specialists to ensure it meets LOHR’s standards for brilliance, balance and finish.

All LOHR diamonds over 1 carat are accompanied by an IGI (International Gemological Institute) certification. IGI provides internationally recognised grading specifically developed for lab-grown diamonds, offering clear and detailed reporting on each stone’s characteristics. This level of detail allows our team to assess diamonds with greater precision and transparency.

Lab-grown and mined diamonds share the same chemical, physical and optical properties, the only difference is how they are formed. This often leads to a broader question of what defines something as “real”. A helpful comparison is a flower grown in a greenhouse versus one grown in an open field. Both are flowers, simply grown in different environments. Ultimately, it’s up to each individual to decide how they see the distinction.

To the naked eye, no, and even the world’s most experienced gemologists cannot reliably tell the difference just by looking at a diamond. Lab-grown and mined diamonds share the same chemical and physical properties, so visually they appear identical.

To determine a diamond’s origin, specialised testing equipment is required. These machines analyse characteristics such as light response and crystal structure using advanced technologies like spectroscopy.

For this reason, diamond origin is typically determined through laboratory testing and certification rather than visual inspection alone.

Yes. Lab-grown diamonds have the same hardness, durability and structure as mined diamonds, meaning they are designed to last just as long. Both rank 10 on the Mohs scale of hardness, the highest rating on the scale. The Mohs scale measures a mineral’s resistance to scratching, and a rating of 10 means diamond is the hardest naturally occurring material, making it exceptionally durable for everyday wear.

Yes. Lab-grown diamonds can be independently graded and certified in the same way as mined diamonds.
